Hometown Heroes Skate: Indianapolis 2011
Competition looked pretty stiff here at the Hometown Heroes stop in Indianapolis. Even during practice, there was no doubt that this would be a hard one to judge. At a glance you’d see any number of dudes hammering down tricks on one of the various handrails or hips on the concrete course.
The skatepark is embedded within a community center which hosts all sorts of other sports. Around the complex you’ll find basketball courts, workout areas, and a huge waterside into an olympic sized pool. This variety of extra-skateboard-activities allowed several random soccer moms and Nascar dads the opportunity to check out Hometown Heroes in it’s full glory.
In the comp we saw a lot of raw tre-flip skills from Grant Campbell. Grant had a flow and natural looking style that got him rocking and rolling into third place. The crowd was hyped to see Brandon Murphy land clean varial flips and a fakie 360 flip over the hip during the finals to clench himself the 2nd place trophy.
And coming in first was Daniel Taylor. With huge 360 flips down the gap and flowing and linking tricks together like nollie 270 heelflips and switch frontside 360’s over the hips, Daniel was a shoe in for the win.
Good looks on all the skating, and we will see Daniel in Los Angeles at the end of July for the HH finals.
Hometown Heroes Skate: Milwaukee 2011
Always good to head up to Milwaukee and see Neal and co. at 4Seasons skatepark. Everyone showed up and got down but in the end it was Shawn Turner taking away the number one spot. Even though Chicago got rained out (check the video below) Shawn still came out and skated and then drove up to Milwaukee to snag the win with a backside flip, the hard way, over the rail. Justin Somlenski snagged second, throwing a big frontside 360 and Brendon Murphy took third with a front smith to 360 shuv out on the bump to bar (insane).
Hometown Heroes Skate: Chicago 2011
Even though Chicago was rained out, the HH crew met up with Shawn Turner and had a little rain session at Wilson. Once everyone was warmed-up/soaked, the crew found a dry (or at least dry enough) spot to get some lines.
Hometown Heroes: Atlanta 2010
Hometown Heroes headed to Progressive Skatepark in Atlanta, Georgia where the owner, Steve, was very friendly and has quite an extensive board collection that you should check out if you ever stop by. Some skaters from Nashville even made the trip out to skate in the contest.
With his kickflip crook up the euro gap rail and feeble up the big rail, Kyle Regiscer took third place.
Second place went to Joey Pellegrino. His rail tricks were impressive including switch 270 front board and well-executed back smiths.
Hometown Heroes veteran, Solomon Mosley, was shredding everything in his path taking first place. Among the many tricks he did, Soloman landed a huge frontside flip up the double bank and switch crook and nollie heel noseslide down the hubba. He destroyed the rail with a kickflip boardslide to fakie, nollie back lip and nollie front board.
Black Box Session with Hometown Heroes
Black Box hosted us once again for our Finals weekend trip of 2010.
Hometown Heroes: Finals 2010 X Games 16
This is the moment we look forward to each and every year at Hometown Heroes: The Finals. It was our seventh year of the tour and our second year wrapping it at X Games.
The final ten warmed up right after Men’s Street went down. Dave Duncan and Shak got on the mic and announced 5 dudes to skate in the first of two heats. One by one, they took 1-minute intro runs, then two 12-minute jam sessions went down back to back.
Judging must have been a rough task because no one knew for sure who was going to win. The battle came down to Ke’Chaud Johnson and Julian Christianson, both previous HH Finals winners.

Hometown Heroes Los Angeles 2010
The last stop on the Hometown Heroes skate tour took place at SkateLab in Simi Valley, California right outside of Los Angeles. The historical skate museum there is amazing as well as the new setup in the skatepark. Be sure to check out SkateLab when you’re in Southern California!
Ralph Rocha took third place after doing a nollie on the big gap to bank. He also did a nollie back lip the rail and switch tail down the hubba.
Jake Hill had a smooth style and was ripping everything. He took second place after landing feeble back 180 and a long nosegrind pop out on the spine. On the rail, Jake got kickflip front board and kickflip bluntslide.
Brendan Villanueva took first place. He did nollie smith and kickflip front board down the rail and hardflip down the gap. He even did a hardflip back lip on the 8 stair rail!
Hometown Heroes: X Games 2010 Spotlight
Our 30-second spotlight piece for the Jumbotron at X Games 16.
A quick glimpse of life on the road with Hometown Heroes. We made it to 38 stops in 23 states all across the country in 3 months. Skating spots and parks and throwing contests was just a piece of what it’s like to be apart of Hometown Heroes!
Hometown Heroes: Las Vegas 2010
Back in Las Vegas for the Hometown Heroes contest, we went to Skate City where our very own Will Pousant is a local. His fellow Hokum teammates were in the mix skating for their chance to qualify for the Hometown Heroes finals at X-Games.
Jacques Robinson had a nice style and choice of tricks. He ended up in third place after nollie flipping off the top of the quarterpipe to flat and back lipping the big rail.
Kenny Tanner was flying around doing airs and grabs all over the course, putting himself in second place. He did a front blunt on the bump to rail, tailslide down the handrail and even a backflip over the flybox.
Pip Meranto took first place after killing the course! On the bump to rail, he did back noseblunt, 270 lipslide, and frontside hurricane. He also did a nice hardflip over the pyramid.
Congrats Pip. See you at the Finals!
Will Pousant Broke Clint Walker’s Phone
Clint blamed Will for breaking his phone. “It was the funniest thing ever.”
Hometown Heroes 2010 in Phoenix
After a cross-country trek from Georgia to Arizona, we were ready for our second contest at Tempe Park this year. Many familiar faces were in the crowd including the winner from May, Isaiah Johnson, who took a slam early on in the contest.
Mark McCoy was killing it and took third place with tricks like heelflip front board to fakie on the bump to bar and shove lipslide down the 9 stair rail.
Donovan Nearing, who got third in May, ended up in second this time around. He did a nice kickflip noseslide and kickflip 50-50 down the small hubba and kickflip back lip on the bump to rail.
Nick Fiorini was destroying every obstacle and took first place. He was having fun on the euro gap doing tre flip tailgrabs and fingerflips. On the small hubba, he did a handful of good tricks including back tail shove, nollie frontside noseslide and nollie heel noseslide. To wrap things up, he tre flipped and nollie flipped the 9 stair in the final session.

Go Skateboarding Day 2010 in NYC: Hometown Heroes
NYC is always one of the most anticipated stops on the tour for the crew, with obvious reasons. We teamed up with Steve at 5boro again on Go Skateboarding Day, and we’re psyched that 5boro has partnered with HH the past couple of years.
Stacked with a picnic table on top, a crazy snake session on the pyramid at the Manhattan Bridge Skatepark is how it went down. Our crew killed the sesh with Clint landing back noseblunt, Ke’Chaud getting kickflip crooks and bs 360, and Will rolling out of a big bs flip. In the end, Piro Sierra won the comp with nollie crooks, smith fakie, back smith pop-out, nollie heel, back tail to flat and a bunch of other tricks with his lion’s mane.
Congrats to him, and happy Go Skate Day to everyone!
